The Interactive Multimedia Association (IMA) CD MATCH program is intended to help inform and educate consumers about the configuration of their multimedia computers and the system requirements for CD-ROM titles. Title developers are simply asked to state their design requirements in the form of a label, and consumers are provided with a means for determining what resources they possess. To assist in this process, the IMA has created:
The IMA CD MATCH program is not expected to resolve the complexities and incompatibilities among multimedia computers. However, the IMA believes that its initiatives will have a very positive impact in a relatively short period of time through better informed consumers.
System incompatibility and title installation difficulties are at the root of the CD-ROM return problem, given the rapid advances in consumer multimedia computers and the penchant for developers to 'push the envelope' to create the most compelling titles possible.
At the core of the IMA CD MATCH Program is the CD MATCH software, a free utility that will enable consumers to easily identify the capabilities of their own system in order to match it up with CD-ROM titles.
A uniform label for CD-ROM packaging.
A small software application called CD MATCH, that probes the consumer's system resources and optionally prints out the system information in a form that can be taken to a store and matched to the Uniform Label on a CD-ROM title.
